Scott Saw was born in 1971 and raised in San Diego, California. His parents met in art school and both received art degrees from SDSU. His father taught art at Palomar College for 30 years and encouraged Scott at a young age to learn the fundamentals of art and design. Scott received a degree in Art and Marketing from San Diego State University in 1998. He currently runs Sawblade Design, a freelance design company, that creates web sites, motion graphics, identity and illustration for artists, musicians and various companies.
Saw makes oil paintings on a variety of surfaces including wood, canvas, high-tech scrap and other found objects. The images often depict energetic, colorful and theatrical vision where dreams and current surroundings cross-pollinate with childhood memories. Saw's paintings have been regarded as romanticized gothic landscapes of nature, misfits and oddities.
Scott self-published his first art book titled “Curtains, the Wonder of Life and the Mystery of Death.” The work provides a unique view of the life cycle by portraying ‘stages' of life being acted out by strange, yet familiar creatures. In the words of artist/musician David J, “Through these works, we, as the captive audience, are privy to the sacred masquerade of life and death. The holy eternal charade.”
Scott Saw has exhibited his work in over 50 solo and group shows within the last 3 years in many galleries including La Luz de Jesus (Los Angeles), Emporium Gallery (San Diego), Roq la Rue (Seattle), 111 Minna, Culture Cache (San Francisco)and Skeleton Art Gallery in (Santa Fe).
